On 31 July 2021 Nush and Hugo wed inside a Church of England ceremony at their local church in Essex, then an intimate marquee reception in Nush's parents' garden.
The couple planned their day during the lockdown, always intending that it is simple and personal. That didn't prevent Nush from selecting a show-stopping gown though, going to Surrey where she selected her dramatic and modern gown, putting it on with a hand-embroidered family veil.
The couple were engaged on New Year's Eve 2020 and planned their day in only seven months.
"At the time of our engagement, I was in the middle of the 3rd lockdown. We would never know when restrictions could be lifted and for that reason decided that people would plan a little wedding for 2021, with only our families."
"My grandmother is extremely creative. The veil was handmade by her for my mother on my small mother's big day when she married my dad, therefore it was very special to put on it inside my wedding."
For styling, Hugo and Nush were aided by Katie Youngman of Mr. and Mrs. Wedding Supplies.
"We wanted the style from the day to be easy and intimate. The reception was inside a marquee within the garden, inside my family home where I was raised. We decided on a wooden, rustic, long table for the meal, having a natural table runner garland comprised of greenery, including eucalyptus."
"We had white drapery and much more foliage draped in the ceiling with white paper lanterns hanging intermittently. We had plenty of warm fairy lights within the garden and the boxed hedges so that within the evening it was all lit up."
Before the marquee garden reception, the newlyweds spent time using their photographer, of these darling couple portrait shots within the beautiful Essex village and countryside.
Among dear friends and suppliers (feeltimes dresses), helped Nush select her long sleeve wedding dresses, making her their bride.
"I loved the contemporary, simple, wearable nature of it. The body would be a column having a square neckline. The sleeves were a genuine statement!"
"I wore my mother's diamond bracelet and pearl drop and gold earrings. My engagement ring is a Sri Lankan blue sapphire, chosen by Hugo. I am British Sri Lankan and loved the nod to my roots."
Nush's grandmother made the beautiful, naked cake.
"It was built with a raspberry sandwich filling, topped with real roses and peonies, most of which were in the garden."
Words of Wedded Wisdom
"We loved our wedding. We would not change anything, despite restrictions, and therefore are so happy that people went for this! If you're worried about having a little wedding due to the pandemic or any other circumstances- don't worry! Your big day will be so special, whether big or small and really should you opt for a little wedding you won't regret it."
