What if I forget to take my medication?

Missed doses when forgetting to take regular tablets, orally disintegrating tablets, sustained-release (long-acting) tablets or sustained-release (long-acting) capsules. However, if it's almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule. Don't take a double dose to make up for missed doses.

If you are taking an enteral infusion of levodopa and carbidopa and will be disconnecting the infusion pump for a short time (less than 2 hours), in addition to normal nighttime disconnecting, ask your doctor if you should take an additional dose before disconnecting the pump. Call your doctor if the infusion pump is disconnected for more than 2 hours; You may be advised to take levodopa and carbidopa orally when not using suspension.

Ask your doctor if it is safe to use alcoholic beverages when taking levodopa or carbidopa. Alcohol can make the side effects of levodopa and carbopa worse.

You should be aware that some people who take drugs such as levodopa and carbidopa have gambling problems or other strong urges or behaviors that are compulsive or unusual for them, such as sexual urges or increased sexual activity. There wasn't enough information to tell whether these people were having these problems because they were taking the drugs or something else. Call your doctor if you have uncontrollable urges to gamble, strong urges, or are unable to control your behavior. Tell your family about the risk, and they can call a doctor even if you don't realize your gambling or any other strong impulses or unusual behavior has become a problem.

You should be aware that your saliva, urine, or sweat may turn dark (red, brown, or black) while taking Levodopa and carbidopa. This is harmless, but your clothes may get dirty.

You should be aware that levodopa and carbidopa may cause dizziness, lightheadedness and fainting when you get up too quickly from your decubitus position. This is more common when you first start taking levodopa and carbidopa. To avoid this problem, get up slowly, place your feet on the floor for a few minutes, and then stand up again.

If you have phenylketonuria (PKU, a genetic disorder in which you must follow a special diet to prevent brain damage that can lead to severe intellectual disability), you should know that oral disintegrate tablets contain aspartame, which forms phenylalanine.
